Welcome to Hudsriding Press.

Hudsriding Press is an imprint of Jos Mahon - Artist. We are based near Allendale in the English North Pennines and publish small print run, local books.

Hudsriding History

Hudsriding is the name of our house, the image you see at the top of the page was Hudsriding in 1921 when the owner had just purchased the property from Lord Allendale. At that time, Hudsriding was a smallholding with 18 acres of land producing milk from a small herd. Those days are long gone and now the barns previously housing cows are part of the house, Jos's studio and associated workshops. The house itself dates back to at least 1750 and probably well before that.  A 'riding' was a clearing in Northumberland so presumably Hud (or Hood as we have seen it written - phonetic?) was responsible for the original clearance / improvement of the land. The 18 acres are now separate from the house and used for sheep. We are only the third family to live in Hudsriding for the last 100 years and will have lived here for 30 years in 2023 - it doesn't change hands very often!

Our Books

For a brief description of our books , go to the Books page or go directly to:

Our ordering system is secure. We prefer Bank Transfer payments which give us the greatest flexibilty regarding personal requirements, particularly overseas customers where we can determine precise postal costs. Our full colour, short run, digitally printed books are relatively expensive to produce so we want to keep our overheads down to a minimum. For this reason we have chosen not to distribute through Amazon.

Alternatively we can accept PayPal payments directly for UK orders which also support debit / credit card purchases without the need for a PayPal account. We do not have access to your card details.
